THANK YOU! ❤️
.
I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who joined in with The 10 Days of Baby Play over the last few weeks. Whether you downloaded the ebook for a later date or joined in each day, your support means a great deal to me.
.
As a mama of three, one of the most important pieces of advice I can give, is to get out and explore with your little ones. Being outside or exploring nature is always a winner in our eyes. Baby E just loved checking out the flowers and plants in the Palmhaus yesterday as you can see here 😍 Today we're off on more adventures around our new city.
.
If you missed #babyplay10 entirely, don't stress. There is still time to download the free ebook by subscribing to my email list - it will be available until the end of February.
.
What weekend adventures have you been on? Let me know in the comments section below ⬇️

Then day 10 is for you!
.
As babies become increasingly mobile, their curiosity about the world is pretty much unstoppable - time to baby proof if you haven't already!

The 'toy grab' helps build strength in legs and feet (gross motor skills) whilst also working on the all-important hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
.
The toy grab couldn't be easier to set up. All you need is some 'clutchable' (duplo bricks or Happyland figures work well) that can be placed on a low table - one that doesn't have sharp corners!
.
In the beginning, place objects closer to the edge to make it easier for baby to reach and grab.
.
From around 9 months, you'll start to notice baby pulling themselves up to standing using furniture - this is when the 'toy grab' can be introduced.
As baby becomes more agile, try moving the toys towards the middle of the table as an extra challenge or even around the room to encourage cruising.
.
Also in stories, I'll be sharing some alternatives that you can try with babies who are younger than my suggested age.
.
Don't forget to tag me in if you give it a try by using the hashtag #babyplay10 👶
.
Please note that ALL activities throughout the course must be done under supervision. Never leave your baby unattended during play.
.
The suggested ages are based on my own experience as a teacher / mum to three and general guidance on baby development. Please don't attempt an activity with your baby if you don't feel they are ready - just bookmark it for another time❤️

#montessoriathome Is it really day 9 already?! For today's baby play we are doing posting activities.
.
This posting activity will again satisfy baby's natural curiosity - what happens when the object is 'posted'? Where does it disappear to?
Posting also helps improve fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination whilst also reinforcing the concept of object permanence.
.
Use a glue gun to attach a baby-wipe lid to the top of a cardboard box.
.
Open up the lid and use a sharp knife to cut a hole inside. .
Items that are 'graspable' and good for posting include jar lids, duplo bricks or wooden blocks.
.
This is another adaptable activity to suit a range of ages.  Whilst the box above would suit baby's from around 8 months, you can also make the activity easier by simply using an empty tissue box for baby to drop items into.
.
Once good hand grasp has been developed, try using smaller slots (cut into the top of the box) for extra challenge.
.
Also in stories, I'll be sharing some alternatives that you can try with babies who are younger than my suggested age.

#montessoriathome Day 8 of The 10 Days of Baby Play means it's time for some mess-free painting!
.
Creative activities are so beneficial for children but the main issues are mess and the worry that paint might get consumed in the process,
.
This activity will alleviate some of the anxieties around painting with little ones and leave you with baby's very first painting as a result!
.
For this to be 'mess free' you will need to prepare carefully...
.
Squirt small blobs of non-toxic paint onto a piece of cardboard, Put into a ziplock bag, ensuring all of the air is deflated then repeat with another ziplock bag on top (this prevents leaking). Finally, place onto a low table or highchair and seal the edges with masking tape.
.
Mess free painting can be done as young as 3 months, if baby has good head control during tummy time (you just seal the ziplock bag to the floor instead)
.
If you don't have paint, try these taste safe alternatives (for babies 6 months +) Natural yoghurt + dash of food colouring OR Cornflour + food colouring + water.
.
I'll post some more ideas in stories later on too ❤️ .

#mummybloggeruk #mummyblogger #artwithkids #getcreativewith #sensoryart #messfreepainting Day 7 of The 10 Days of Baby Play! Today we are sharing a DIY ribbon pull.
.
The ribbon pull predominately develops fine motor skills, specifically the pincer grip, which will eventually be used to  pick up food, hold a pencil or tie a shoelace. .
It's also a great way for baby to explore cause and effect: what happens when the ribbon is pulled? How does it go back again? It's brilliant watching baby figure it out!
.
You will need a small cardboard box or cylindrical container along with a mix of ribbons. Keep one end open so that the ribbon can be pulled from both ends. .
Start by piercing a small hole in the box with a scissors or knife. Thread the ribbon through the box and tie a fat double knot in each end so that the ribbon cannot be completely pulled through by baby.
.
Due to the finger dexterity needed to grasp at smaller objects, this activity will suit babies from around 7 months.
.
For older babies (12 months +), you could try the 'tape rip' or 'toy rescue' where you place toys underneath a piece of washi tape. Baby can then peel up the tape using the pincer grip. Just keep a close watch! I'll share these activities over in stories later on!
.
Also in stories, I'll be sharing some alternatives that you can try with babies who are younger than my suggested age.

#montessoriathome The 10 Days of Baby Play is back after the weekend and Day 6 is all about discovery baskets!
.
Discovery baskets (also called treasure baskets) are a way of presenting a small selection of toys for baby to play with. You've probably all seen 'toy rotation' by now? I see this as the baby version! It basically avoid an overwhelm of choice yet still provides baby with the option to choose items from the basket.
.
It's an easy activity to set up too - just collect approximately 5 baby toys and  books from around your home to place in a basket. You can even try heuristic materials such as hair rollers, spoons, jar lids or even a whisk. Just make sure that any 'everyday' objects are safe for baby to explore.

Basket themes that work well include textures,  animals, colours or seasons. Here i've featured three baskets: blue, red and winter which I've set up in the last few weeks. I'll pop some more over in stories throughout the day too.
.
This activity is perfect for babies who can sit unaided for at least 5 minutes at a time. Babies start to sit independently anywhere between 4 and 7 months.
Older babies and toddlers also benefit from discovery baskets. Book baskets are a particular favourite of ours along with exploration of letters and numbers.

.
We had a super fun, busy day yesterday exploring Prater Park with one of Mr 9's new buddies. Our @waytoplaytoys road was a lifesaver on more than occasion as it kept Miss 3 distracted whilst the big kids played on the more ambitious apparatus!
.
If you're joining in with The 10 Days of Baby Play, week 2 starts tomorrow (8am GMT) You can check out what we've done so far by scrolling my feed or visiting saved stories. There's still an opportunity to download the FREE E-Book too, just by subscribing to my mailing list.

.
Valentine's Day is a bit of a tricky one with little children. We tend to approach it by talking about people we care about.
.
Yesterday we had a little chat about who we love and care about whilst making Valentine's (playdough) cakes. Z said she loves her Aunty Elinor along with her friends Sophie and Lucy - it was a really cute little chat! I'm going to pop more in stories later on.
.
If you're joining in with 'The 10 Days of Baby Play,' we are resuming the challenge on Monday. You can catch up by checking out my feed, stories or even by signing up to my email list to download the free accompanying ebook!

.
Creating a light box for your baby provides a calming play option. Every time we get our lightbox out, Baby E is absolutely enchanted - I'll share a video in stories after this post!

This is another safe form of sensory play for baby - they can explore the beauty of the lights without you having to stress about them consuming small parts!
.
There are a number of ways to set up this activity, our favourites include putting battery operated LED lights in either a clear bottle, Tupperware box or takeaway container. Glow sticks can make a nice alternative too - just make sure the lid is secure on the container you are using.
.
The beauty of the DIY light box  is that it can suit a variety of ages - we regularly get ours out as a calming activity during 'witching hour.'
.
Very young babies will just be fascinated by watching the lights whilst older babies and toddlers will get an early introduction to scientific enquiry as they explore light and shadows.
