Earth Day Shelfie 🌍

Okay so admittedly, I entirely forgot it was Earth Day until I saw all of the posts! To make up for that, i've created an Earth Day themed Shelfie for the children to explore this week.

Happy Easter lovelies!

We've had a wonderful day exploring the Easter markets at Schonbrunn Palace. I wore my big girl pants and braved the crowds with my three. Unfortunately Miss 3 has now gone down for the dreaded 4pm nap (she doesn't usually nap anymore) which spells disaster for this evening. 😫
.
I thought it was about time I reintroduced myself to my new followers. I'm Siân (pronounced Sharn) I am a primary teacher turned blogger and mamma to three awesome kiddos.
.
I’m super passionate about providing fun, easy and low-cost ideas for parents and teachers. I know both the challenges of being a full-time working mum and a ‘stay-at-home mum’ having experienced both at one stage or another.
.
I originally created Teach. Investigate. Play whilst staying at home with my daughter. I wanted to make sure the activities we did were not only educational, but fun and engaging too. I started posting on Instagram a few times a week to interact with other parents in a similar situation and that has now grown to daily posts about the activities we do.
.
Recently I've been thinking more and more about WHY I started my account. It wasn't for the likes. It was so that I could find a community. I hope that this group can become its own little community - a place where we can share ideas and ask questions without the pressure of things having to be 'insta-worthy.'
.
Over on Facebook I have just launched two Creative Play Hubs - one for babies and tabies and one for toddlers and preschoolers. I hope to build a little community over there so do come and join me - you can check out the link over in my stories ❤️

Easter activities for babies 🐣

I feel a little late to the Easter activity party as we've been enjoying the school break. A lot of the activities we've been doing aren't exactly 'insta-worthy' but it doesn't make them any less fun!
.
I have however been working behind the scenes on my website. I've put a lot of free e-books and printables in The Creative Play Hub section so do go and check that out!
.
I've got to say, i've been feeling a little down about the 'gram recently and it got me thinking about why I started. It wasn't about the likes, it was about COMMUNITY, so to help me refocus, so as well as The Creative Play Hub freebies, i've set up two Facebook community groups which I'll create a little link to over in stories! This will be a place to share activities and ideas without the pressure to make them 'insta-worthy.'

Picking the flowers 🌹

Mr 1 is super curious about everything right now so this 'pick the flowers' activity suited him perfectly. He sat like this for a good 10 minutes, pulling the flowers up, then putting them back again.
.
This was great for hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills too. Please note that the activity does need to be done under supervision, as with any homemade baby play activity ❤️
.
This activity has a dual purpose because I've also colour coded the stems with the egg carton to turn it into a fun matching game for Miss 3.
.
We've done lots of ideas similar to this in the past, including a 'digging up the carrots' number match and name recognition too - so keep those egg cartons as they are super useful! 😆
.

Easter themed alphabet hunt 🔍

You know what it's like with Amazon orders, you often and up with items that aren't quite right. This is exactly what happened with the gigantic plastic Easter eggs we ended up with. They are seriously twice the size of the regular ones 😝
.
They've turned out great for a few learning opportunities, including an alphabet hunt around the house - as shown here. We placed magnetic letters into the eggs, for Z to find and place onto a metal baking tray. You could also do this with numbers or even do a proper treasure hunt too.
.

Easter themed nature collages 🐰🐣

It's safe to say we've been pretty obsessed with our nature walks and all things flora and fauna at the moment so this morning, we decided to make some art.
.
We used flowers from the bouquets that have been drying for the last few weeks, along with a few nature finds too.
.
Letting little ones loose with the glue can seem like a straight up bad idea, so we use the mantra 'dot, dot, not a lot!' as a guide for Z. As you can see from the last photo, she's pretty proud of her creation 😍
.
This is our share from the awesome craft-stravaganza that is #hop_fest - originally we had several other ideas but this is our 'in the moment' art activity.
.
It might seem a little too simple - after all it's pasting flowers onto cardboard BUT there's plenty of learning and achievable for Miss 3 too.
.

I'm not quite sure where this year has gone already, but I can't believe it's Easter in a few weeks! Time we got cracking on some activities 😆🐰

Here's a simple tray I put together for Z using our spring themed rainbow rice, fine motor tools and some fluffy bunny tails (pompoms).
.
We usually have two sensory trays on rotation at any one time for Z who is 3. We also have a Flisat table which I fill with items that are also suitable for Mr 1.
.
My insta-buddy @rachelmoffatt13 has set up the #trayfortheday hashtag and that is filled with gorgeous inspiration 😍
