Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, had a very shiny nose...

Okay so it's day 10 of 12 days of Craftmas and would you expect anything other than a crazy pompom craft from us?

This Rudolph wall hanging/ wreath alternative was made by me and Mr 9 - you can find out exactly how by visiting the link in stories! It's definitely a great activity for older kids, especially when the school holidays kick in later this month ❤️

Another day, another Christmas tree related activity 😆

I used a hot glue gun to make triangles with crafts sticks, then Miss 2 decorated the trees with chenille sticks and pom-poms. Couldn't be simpler really and it's another great way to work on fine motor skills.
.
I know I bang on a lot about fine motor skills but they are also essential for children to learn. Eventually these skills lead on to writing but I also believe they need to be done in a fun, non pressurised way.
.

Baby sensory at Christmas time 🎅

Originally I was set on launching a free course, but instead i've had to make do with a blog post. As we all know, this time of year is crazy and I've been trying to make the most of time with my parents.

So over on the website right now are 5 simple ideas for you to try with your mini ones at home. I'll pop a link up in stories and i'd love it if you went over and checked it out!

Featured here are three themed sensory bottles for little hands. I've found the small @innocent smoothie bottles to be a great alternative to Voss. Baby E can pick these up far more easily too.
.
Simply pop small decorative items in the bottle and seal the lid shut. You can use a glue gun to do this is you're worried about baby emptying the contents!
.

'O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree, How lovely are thy branches...'

Okay so there aren't any branches on this particular tree because it's made out of food pouch lids but it was a great fine motor workout!
.
As you all know by now, we're big fans of food pouch lids and pom-poms so this a little match made in heaven.
.
If you have younger children trying this activity, either model it first or get them to copy from a picture.

Baby sensory at Christmas 🎅

If you've seen my stories today, you'll know that Baby E is rather curious about the Christmas tree. To try and help him explore in a much safer way, i've been creating Christmas themed sensory baskets.
.
The silver basket here features silver baubles (with the string removed), ribbon, coasters and beads in a plastic bottle. Baby E then had a happy time exploring the contents of the basket without the stress of him toppling the tree!
.
As always, please never ever leave your baby unattended whilst they explore this type of activity. Constant supervision is required at all times.

Anyone for Christmas cake?

Okay so you can't actually eat this variety of 'cake' but at least your little one can have heaps of fun pretending to bake.

Rainbow rice or in this case, Christmas rice, is a staple play resource of ours. I made this one using some natural dyes from Waitrose and a little dash of vinegar. .
Although I present the rice in a certain way (photo 1), Miss Z will now ask for certain props so a wooden spoon and silicon cupcake cases were added to the mix. She then spent a good half an hour pretend to make then. I just love her expression in photo 3 so do swipe along for that 😆❤️

Bookish play for babies

I put together a little Santa themed play basket for Elliott using the 'Where's Santa Claus?' book @nosycrow very kindly sent him.
.
We're exploring the colour red with some beads in a clear bottle (innocent smoothies seem to be a good alternative to Voss), red ribbon and a knitted santa that my own Nanna made for me when I was little.
.
This is an activity to do together so please never leave your baby unsupervised ❤️

Pompom rescue!

Fine motor skills are something that we're really working hard on at the moment. Little Z is enjoying it as we're making it fun rather than a chore - it's paying off too as she amazed me a few days ago when she could thread the string through Christmas decorations 😲❤️

Here's a little pom pom rescue that I've seen a few times on the gram. You could definitely make it harder by looping more wool onto the tray 👍
